After the excitement of the Olympics, I was pleased that the Democratic National Convention didn't disappoint. I spent the entire week glued to my television watching each speaker and commentator with great anticipation. My favorites include:
Michelle Obama
Despite caucasians saying that Michelle looks mean or is too agressive, I see her as being a great role model for women, especially Black women. Michelle is strong and has not lost (or given up) her identity of being Black. She is beautiful, intelligent, and articulate. She has found a balance between being a good wife, mother, and still persuing her own interests. Most women, Black or White, never accomplish such a feat. I found it so amusing that so many of the commentators, especially the caucasion women, kept saying how Michelle would be the downfall to Senator Obama's campaigne. Funny how that wasn't said about Hillary. Even funnier because I find most white women to be extremely docile and clueless. In my life, I've only come across 3 white women (literally) that I can say could survive without a man. Most of them can't even balance a checkbook without their husband/ boyfriend. I say "GO MICHELLE!"
Ex-President Clinton
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways! Bill was funny, sarcastic, and honest in a way that I don't believe most people would have gotten away with. I enjoyed every moment of his speech and I believe, whether it was sincere or not, that he did his part in convincing delegates to support Senator Obama's presidential nomination. There is still this one lingering question. While Hillary was giving her speech, Bill was sitting in the audience next to some really handsome Black guy. Can anyone tell me who he was???? :)
Senator Clinton
Did anyone besides me notice that Hillary started her speech with "I'm a proud daughter, proud mother, proud senator, and proud American" but never mentioned being a proud wife? Furthermore, she never mentioned that Bill other to say what he did while he was in the White House. He sat in the audience on the verge of tears and had I not already known, I wouldn't have had a clue that she was married. I believe that she gave a great speech but I'm not sure what impact it will have, especially since McCain went and chose Mrs. Palin (more about her in another post).
I'll make this footnote. Originally, I was not impressed by Senator Obama. In fact, I rooted for Romney in the primary. It wasn't until about 2 weeks ago that I was pondering my choice for President. I'm extremely conservative in most aspects...pro-life, against gay marriage, pro-working, pro-helping people but not taking care of them, pro-children & elderly, etc. However, as I contemplated, I was reminded of one minor thing...government officials are not responsible for supporting our religious morals and values. I'll explain later.
